| Belby is a dedicated student who enjoys learning but who is not governed by it. He believes that school is as much about building social relationships as it is about strengthening academic ones. As a Half-Blood wizard, he is often teased and taunted for his status but he sees house rivalry, the relationships between Slytherins and Gryffindors and the general obsession with lineage and house alliances to be a waste of time. He thinks individuals ought to be judged on what they have to offer, not how they were born or sorted. Belby absolutely adores Potions. He is extremely motivated in this class which is what landed him a position in the 'Slug Club'. His concoctions don't always succeed, and he is already known for attempting things that have never been tried or attempted before. Which, when his experiments fail, often leads to the ridicule of other Ravenclaws. Damocles is not arrogant or self-absorbed, but his dismissive nature and his obsession with his work often leads other students to think him stuck-up or snobbish instead of taking the time to get to know him. Belby is at times absent-minded or distance, easily irritated by ignorance and always busy. |

| When Damocles was a child, before the age of eleven when he first attended Hogwarts, he encountered and was attacked by a werewolf while staying in Galway with his uncle. He miraculously escaped both with his life and uninjured. Unlike most people after being attacked by such a 'beast', Damocles saw no evil or malice in the creature. All he saw was a kind of regal beauty that was, unfortunately, uncontrollable. He became increasingly interested in werewolves and resisted his uncle's home in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the one who he'd seen when he was young. Werewolves continue to be an interest of his, and he thinks that discrimination against them is as ill-founded as discrimination against anyone. Instead of being hunted, registered, or treated like they have a disease, he believes they should be helped. |
